What’s harder for you? Strength or flexibility? For me it’s strength. I am not naturally strong. I was never a dancer, a gymnast or on a sports team. I wasn’t athletic before yoga and I had no prior physical training before I jumped into an yoga class. _ You might look at me an assume I was born like this. But I can tell you that I have to work for every lift up. And flexibility wasn’t immediately there for me either. The first time I tried to touch my toes I couldn’t reach. The first backbend I did was so stiff. But, flexibility happened faster than strength for me. I’m grateful for that, but I also learned that my joints are naturally unstable. That means it makes it extra hard to build strength. _ I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to quit or how jealous I felt seeing other students quickly master the lift ups and arm balances that I struggled (and still struggle) with. But the journey taught me something about strength, faith and perseverance that I wouldn’t have learned in any other way. Today, I’m grateful for every lesson, for every obstacle, especially the tough ones because they have forced me to grow and evolve. And I have.
