India, the spiritual home of yoga, the source of this ancient tradition that ha shiver so much to our modern world, and so much to me. The decision to travel to this small city in the south called Mysore 20 years has defined my life more than almost anything else. There have been so many lessons that I couldn’t fit them all into a post, or event a book, the best lessons being beyond what words can describe. I feel like every yoga student owes a debt to the rich cultural heritage of India. We all have to find our own ways to give back.

The reality is that not every yoga student will make it to India. It’s a privilege to be able to fly across the world and take extended time off work, away from home, one that not everyone has. It doesn’t make you less of a yogi if you haven’t been to India, but I do think every yogi needs to be educated about the origins of yoga. Like anything else, a trip to India isn’t a badge to wear and show off like a fancy asana. It has to teach you something to be valuable.
