The balance of life is so tender and delicate and yet we are so strong and resilient. While sometimes all it takes is one argument to turn the tide of a lifetime of happiness, no matter what happens you will pick up the pieces and start again. Emotional stress is the worst for me. When someone that I love is angry at me or when there is a disagreement my heart breaks a little. I’ve learned over the years (and many appointments at the therapist) that I cannot control or solve other people’s emotions. I can only work on my own. So I wait, I sit it out, until my own sense of happiness and joy is restored. Then, when my soul is able to come from love, I reach out with no attachment, no expectation and let what wants to happen happen. I trust. I move in faith. It isn’t easy. In fact it’s a struggle nearly every time. Sometimes I hear those old voices that want to reach for a drink or something stronger to drown out the pain, or I feel the rashly irresponsible urge to burn the house down (most often with myself in it). But now I know that those are just ghosts in the wind, papers dragons that cast a shadow but have no power. There is a strength that comes from silence, a quiet resolve to do the right thing especially when it isn’t popular—that strength, the kind that comes from deep resolution is the strength of yoga, and in it lies true peace. But, you have to choose peace with every ounce of willpower that you have, in every breath and every moment of your life.
