Why did you choose to join Instagram? Answer: Our students were talking about Instagram in 2012 and we saw it as a medium that had tremendous potential for BC. We have a beautiful campus in a wonderful city. The first few posts were our staffers getting comfortable with a new platform. A senior, Emily Hobbs, was our first student collaborator on the account and helped take us in a direction that honestly exceeded every expectation we had for Instagram. In one year, the account had grown to over 30,000 followers, thanks to it being chosen for Instagram’s ‘suggested user’ list. ________________________________________Q: How relevant is Instagram for a university like yours? A: Instagram is one of the two top platforms for current and prospective students. That makes it extremely relevant for communicating with young people, on a platform where they are. ________________________________________Q: How has Instagram helped you more than other social networks, to connect with your fans? A: We’ve been able to achieve an engagement level on Instagram that is unmatched by any other social network. There are students administering the account, drawing from the best photos of campus or events that other students have to offer. The account started as a look at BC through the eyes of students and we’ve been able to grow that concept.
