I first was introduced to this spot about 6 years ago when I did Put Foot Rally, and the place had actually just stopped offering elephant rides back then after receiving backlash (likely from people like me) about riding. They decided to stop offering elephant rides, but then had no way of making money to care for the ellies, so they came up with the concept of a high end cafe to profit from instead. The elephants are free roaming, and they could actually leave if they wanted to (one did and came back pregnant!) but since they’re used to humans and trained to interact with them from their riding days, they will still come up for snacks (for an additional cost) so you can take photos with them. Full disclosure that I am impartial to feeling like the interactions should be taken away and they should be left alone to roam without humans interfering, and just watched from the lunch spot…but it’s also an extremely magical moment to stand next to them, plus they might come find me and stomp me if I say their snack time should be taken away… I am fortunate to have gotten to go here as a relaxing lunch day thanks to #SafParZambia , and I immediately returned the favor when our whole #mylifesatraveltribe group trip opted for the lunch here!
