I just hope it doesn’t end up like an Ice Age movie! Antarctica season is upon us, and although I partially hoped prices would go back up in order to keep this destination a bit harder to attain to avoid over tourism, these Black Friday/travel Tuesday deals, plus a lot of the companies jumping onboard (finally) with getting influencers (and celebrities) to host group trips, has me a little scurrreddd and deterrreddd for hosting or promoting going here unfortunately. What was once my biggest achievement, being the first blogger to get a comp’ed trip to Antarctica by bringing 5 guests, is now the industry’s biggest marketing tool, and I’m not entirely sure how much of the profits go to conservation, or how much people actually care (people love to blame us for bringing people there, yet don’t say anything about the companies who hire us 😁) Antarctica will forever be one of my top life experiences though, and I hope the people who go are going for the right reasons! I know my people are! Very excited to do one last Peninsula trip next year before I switch to only more in-depth scientific/conservation expeditions, and new destinations that involve polar bears and the arctic circle! ….and of course, more extremely remote islands!
