This is my 3rd year going to DRC, and the second time bringing a group, and while I always feel safe going to Tchegera Island and in Goma, I’m not going to hide the fact that we still can’t go gorilla trekking in Virunga (where I first went) due to civil unrest caused by rebel groups. It would be great if all of the “peace keepers” that are based there would help stop the violence (the rebels brutally kill a lot of locals in the northern area) but I haven’t heard of much change since my first time here. Anyway, Virunga is still my #1 gorilla trek and I hope the gorillas are safe there! Would you go to D.R. Congo?
