So when you travel, especially to Havana, be sure to support the locals! Here's 8 easy ways to do it and why! 1. Privately hire the classic car drivers; whatever they make, they keep! Some are part of gov owned taxis! 2. Stay in "Casa Particulars"; like BnB's, and again, locally owned so the people profit, not the gov or foreign investors. I loved @lola.habana and @lalorehabana 3. Eat at "Paladares"; restaurants built in people's homes, and same idea, the ppl get to profit! Favorites are @el_del_frente and @elcuartodetula__ 4. Shop Local designers! Many make the clothes in their stores as well (and with whatever they can find!) Check out @dadorhavana and @clandestina99 5. Take a salsa class, cooking class, or any cultural immersion experience! 6. Buy Local Art FROM the artists, so you know they are directly profiting, not a store or a knock off! Some amazing artists in Havana are @tttteoe , @estudioares , and @devonruizzz 7. Visit the locally owned and run entertainment/art venues! Like "Casa Vieja" and when it reopens, @fabricadeartecubano 8. And of course, actually TALK to the locals and hear their stories! Some truly insightful people I met who love talking to visitors are @raztaroods and @daveespinoza91! It's also nice to bring "gifts" (don't call them donations) like OTC meds, powdered food, coffee, and clothes!
