アリサ・ラモスさんのインスタグラム写真 - (アリサ・ラモスInstagram)「Not gunna lie, as a Cuban-American, it bothers me when people love Cuba or the idea of it because "it's like being in a time capsule". ...and also when people buy/wear the Che hats there 🙈 . As beautifully nostalgic and whimsical as it is, the real reason Cuba, namely Havana, looks like something out of a '50s movie, is because that's when Che and Fidel took over, and overnight basically stopped time. . And not in a good way, UNLESS you were the poor farmers or "lower class". For them, the regime making "everyone equal" was a dream come true, and they loved them for it! For everyone else, it sucked, and it still does. . One of the main reasons why there's so many classic '50s cars, is because imports stopped! As did excess money to even buy a new one. So these people have been fixing those cars with anything they can find for 60 years (not joking, my driver was legit excited when I gave him some wires I found). . The old buildings still have their Spanish colonial charm, because there's no money or supplies to make new buildings! And if you take a closer look, you'll notice the majority of them are crumbling. Some even have trees growing out the top of them! . The government-owned buildings though of course are restored and beautiful. Like this theater, and the nice hotels that US citizens are "not allowed" to stay at bc the current office banned it, are nice as well. . If you think of the people, who are also stuck in this time capsule, it's really bad. . But times are changing, and thanks to the art and entrepreneurship movement, people are finally able to progress out of the '50s and away from complete communism. You'll see how in my documentary! Finally finished editing, just waiting till it's safe to post it so I don't potentially get in trouble for supporting these people or something (who knows these days). . Anyway!
