When billionaires believe they are above the law and act with impunity it is not ok. When greedy corporations try to control, squash and silence every voice of criticism, it is a violation of basic free speech rights. When people stand cowering in fear and are afraid to speak out lest they face lawsuits and subpoenas, it is corporate bullying. When the little guys lock arms and stand up for what’s right and are accused of conspiracy, it kills community and trust.

Not only do these violent, aggressive actions suffocate the truth, stymie growth and torpedo reconciliation, but they demonstrate how entrenched power is utterly clueless about the reality of the people on whose backs their empire is built. From the glass house of greed their ears are tone deaf to the music of the soul. Look around now and you will see silence and blank pages where once there was freedom of expression. The message is clear. Be silent. Shut it down. Get in line. Or else you will be FORCED into compliance.

Not only is this not yoga, but it violates the basic principles of democracy. When absurd paranoia, funded by the deep coffers of well-connected corporate men and their team of lawyers is the rule of law, suffering wins. There is certainly no yoga happening.

Yoga is a path of truth and freedom. I stand for yoga. I believe we, the yogis of the world, need to hold every company and person who uses the word “yoga” as part of their marketing message or promotional content accountable for their actions. This is a critical moment in our world. Let’s turn it into a movement that stands for the heart of yoga.
