When the sun shines in Copenhagen you have to go full power and soak it up. For me that means a handstand and a smile. The first time I came to Denmark over 15 years ago I was overwhelmed by the way people of shapes, sizes and ages sunned themselves on any patch of green available. An older Danish couple literally stripped down to their underwear and fell asleep unselfconsciously in the sun. It was liberating to see such a body free culture, like no one was really aware of their size or shape, they just wanted to be in the sun. I didn't get it at first. I'm from Florida. One thing we have enough of is the sun. In fact Floridians go through pains to avoid the sun. I will actually cross over to the shady side of the street in Miami. But not in Denmark. I want to walk in the sun here, primarily because if I don't I'm freezing. We had this romantic idea that we'd spend six months of the year here. While I love so much about Copenhagen, I didn't make it through one bad summer without dreaming of the beach every day. So I begged and pleaded and got my tall, blue-eyed Viking @timfeldmannyoga to export himself to Miami. We built our yoga center @miamilifecenter together and watched a whole community of yogis bloom around us. If you come to Miami come practice with us. I'll be teaching a few classes this Fall. We live in Miami Beach, in the land of mangos and palm trees, with the endless summers, the humid air, in the crazy cultural mix that's always been my home (I'm a Florida native, born and bred). But this will always be a part of our lives too. It has changed me for the better in ways I can't even begin to describe. But one thing I've never managed to learn is how to wear closed-toe shoes. I did buy a pair of vegan boots and a pair of sneakers but I save those for when it's snowing and I literally have no choice. Ha! I would never survive the winter. Oh and my Danish is pretty terrible too. The only thing I ever really manage to succeed at is to make all the Danish people laugh at my bad pronunciation. But really, who else besides the Danish can pronounce those soft D's? _ Practice with me in CPH Sept 1-3 @yogamudracopenhagen
