There are postures that look super bendy and cool right from the start and there are postures that look easy but require lots of flexibility and strength. Urdhva Mukha Paschimattanasana is the latter. It combines core strength with a deep, easy forward bend. A great way to test your strength is to be stable in Navasana. Having an easy, deep seated forward fold is the best test of the dynamic flexibility required for Urdhva Mukha Paschimattanasana. If you can fold forward but it’s not easy you will find it hard to fold forward while engaging your core and balancing on the space between your sitting bones and your tailbone.
