"Is Mexico Safe?" This is the question I get asked the most aside from "Are things open" and "Are people wearing masks"?
.
It's actually one of the top questions I've gotten asked about most of the "stereotypical dangerous countries" I've been to solo, and my general answer is usually the same:
.
Crime and other bad things happen everywhere, even at home, so you need to always be prepared and vigilant, and don't stereotype an entire country as dangerous when the majority of the people are good.
.
I do however feel responsible to tell you the reality here specifically, and give you some crucial safety tips, since I keep showing off how beautiful it is, and giving tips for how to travel here.
.
I'm not going to say exactly what the main crimes are (but you can read about them on the blog post), just that I do hear of things rather frequently in the women's expat groups I'm in, and have taken safety precautions accordingly, and therefore have not personally experienced any danger....aside from those dang hurricanes.
.
Here's a couple brief tips, but PLEASE read the full post (linked on Stories), if you're planning on coming to this area of Mexico (Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum).
.
🍹Watch your drink at all times (men included) to avoid theft and abduction
🚶‍♀️Do not walk alone at night, BUT ALSO
🚕 Don't get into a random taxi bc apparently they might rob you too...I have several safe taxi numbers on the post
🚲If you're staying here solo, get a bike or motorbike, even for during the day, as it's safer than walking
📱If going somewhere solo, share your location with someone you trust, or even someone from the expat group chats
👯 Join one of the expat group chats for safety updates, but also to find other people to go out with so you don't have to walk alone! Info for joining also on the blog post
.
I have a total of 19 tips on the blog post, again linked in Stories or main page of my blog (MyLifesAMovie.com, linked in bio), some of which I'm purposely not writing on here just in case the wrong person sees it, but please take a look!
.
If you know someone going to this area of Mexico soon, please share this with them as well!
