You may remember all of the amazing Día de los Muertos festivities I got to partake in last year in Guadalajara, and yes I was excited to be in Mexico again this year for it, but spoiler alert, festivities are cancelled and even cemeteries have been closed (which is very sad for families who usually bring flowers and treats to the graves of their loved ones tonight, and bc of the concept that the deceased cross over expecting their family there!). . There are other small ways to celebrate though. Here in Playa people are still getting their Catrina faces painted, and many businesses and homes are still building an "ofrenda" (like an altar) with the marigold flowers, photos of their deceased loved ones, Catrina dolls, and trinkets. . If you have a deceased loved one you'd like to celebrate today, feel free to make a little ofrenda of your own, and toast to them with their favorite drink or food! . I have a photo of my grandparents that I travel with and a digital Día de los Muertos ofrenda I made of all of my friends who have passed away that I shall toast to with red wine and tequila later tonight! .
