The entire area has one of the largest underground river systems under it, most of which connect, and it's said that it was caused by the meteor that hit which also killed all the dinosaurs. (They were caves during the ice age then the water rose and now they are a river system.) Most have bigger openings, but this one literally had just one smallish hole (that a bat flew out of), and a staircase to climb down into it 😳 The second frame was shot from standing at the top of the stairs...which is ground level, just to give you an idea of this one's depth underground! Then, as you can see, the water is crystal clear, which is from the intense filtration system through the limestone. It is also freezing cold 🥶 NOW!! Imagine shooting these underwater videos and suddenly it goes pitch black! Bc that happened!!! Luckily we had a few dive flashlights, but I definitely started to have a PTSD flare up from my diving accident in a Cenote near thits one! I actually straight up left my two guides, who weren't nearly as scared as I was (so keeping calm and moving slower), and swam by myself with just a single flashlight... ANYWAYYY! I've been asked by the local tour company not to post the location of this lesser known gem (it's also in a Mayan village) but if you want to see it you can DM me or take a tour with them, they'll take your pics too!
