We’re used to seeing colorful fish species in the ocean, but it’s hard to believe that such a vibrant fish would call a river in Tennessee home. That is, however, the only place in the wild that you’ll find this endangered bluemask darter. @conservation.fisheries (where this photo was taken) has been working with this species since 2010 to expand its home range in central Tennessee. In January, the team released 300 juveniles bred at the facility into the wild with the hope that they will begin to breed on their own, giving the species a much needed population boost. You can help to support the recovery of species like this one by keeping your lawn and garden pesticide free. florabhyde Sorry if this sounds stupid but I'm curious. I don't live near rivers, lakes or the ocean and I don't spray my lawn. For people in my area, who do spray, is there still a risk to aquatic life further away? Also you can get sprays that are safe for pets and wild animals would this potentially include aquatic life? TIA

andrewpaglino Good luck,man is responsible for the extinction of almost 60% of the worlds creatures,something has to give,and like civilisations before us ,we will also fade Intl oblivion eventually,then the creatures may fight back.

mizsteffieb I don’t think telling people to stop using pesticides is working, judging by the proliferation of companies that spray for mosquitoes and ticks. How do we fix that?
