Photographing every species in captivity is no easy task. Just figuring out what species I’ve photographed, which ones I still need, and where I need to go next to find them is a project in itself, which is why I am grateful to have taxonomist Pierre Chabannes help me keep the Photo Ark species catalog accurate as the project continues to grow. A native of France, Pierre's encyclopedia-like memory and love of all creatures means he does a great job scouting, producing and identifying species around the world. Joel you have made a huge impact on me and my photography.I used to shoot landscape only. I saw your exhibit at the Annenberg in LA. Soon after that I went to several places with raptors I had never seen up close. Then,I got a rare opportunity to yoga at my local wildlife weigh station plus go to various zoos. I am so hooked on photographing these beautiful creatures. I am able to bring non domestic animals to peoples attention. They see how majestic they are. Thank you for your contagious love of animal conservation. I hope I can inspire others as well.

I teach beginning digital photography at my high school and I still show “At Close Range” every semester. Then they do research in your Photo Ark and are fascinated with it. Thank you for inspiring the next generation to care about all creatures great and small.

Just saw you on 60 minutes @joelsartore and had to follow you! You are amazing photographer and I absolutely love what you are doing. I hope this can save some of the species we are destroying.

I can't get my kittens to stand still for .2 seconds to get pictures of them... I am so impressed by your ability to capture all creatures in such incredible detail and with such clear love!

Have you done NZ’s flightless birds? The fun everyday ones, like Weka and Pukeko. I love naughty birds. I’m sure you could spend months in NZ with our awesome birds!
