It’s a grassy, slow-moving river made up of coastal mangroves, sawgrass marshes and pine flatwoods that are home to hundreds of animal species. It’s the only place in the world to have both alligators and crocodiles. _ Big thing— Don’t feed the animals! Certainly not the alligators and crocodiles. _ Environmental protection— It’s been said lately that the Everglades is on life support. There are many stressors including urban encroachment, agricultural run-off, climate change and poaching of alligators are just some of the dangers. The high phosphorus in agricultural run-off reduces oxygen levels in the water and suffocated the fish and kills off the good algae. And of course there’s the ubiquitous problem of plastic. _ What can we do? Raise awareness for Everglades restoration, support stricter agricultural laws, elect politicians who support strong environmental protections. _ My teacher @sharathjoisr is also an avid wildlife photographer.
