As a young heart-broken girl who felt like quitting on life after a boy I loved broke up with me, I had a dream that changed my life. A group of angels lifted me up and showed me a group of people assembled around table with one seat missing. They then said to me, “How can you take your seat at the table when you’re lying around crying over a boy?”. Then I woke up and just knew it was time to move on and get on with my life. And I did. I bought an around-the-world airplane ticket, went to India, Nepal, Thailand, Taiwan and started a journey that would define my life.

The lesson learned was one about self-love. I spent so many years waiting for someone to complete me. I wasted so much time waiting for someone to help me, for someone to sweep in like a hero and open a door to my dreams. But my life changed when I realized that I was the person I was waiting for. I am the one uniquely equipped to make my dreams come up, to open every door that needs opening and make the magic happen.

If I could go back and tell myself something it would be this—your biggest, wildest dreams are valid and worthy and, even more so, so are you! You’re the one whose fairy dust needs to be sprinkled over all your ideas. It’s you, darling, it always has been. Look in the mirror and love the image that you see because your love is so big it scares people. Let them be scared. They will fight you, try and take you down, insult you, try and pick you apart, they will do their best to make you feel unworthy and wrong, but don’t listen. It has nothing to do with you. It’s about them. Don’t take anyone’s misery or hate personally and don’t internalize or rehash their words. Make your own words. Be as precise as a laser beam with every thought. Carry faith in your heart like an impenetrable armor.

But most importantly love, little one, love. Not in some kind sweet saccharine way. Love because you’re fierce and fiery. Love because you’re strong and beautiful. Love because love is who you are.
