The Széchenyi bath in Budapest was my first experience of geothermal springs. Have you ever tried a natural hot spring? I absolute loved it ? When I went into the water I never wanted to come out. There is something so magical about being immersed in hot water and looking straight up to a big blue sky.

When I hear “bath house” all sorts of strange images come to mind, but nothing like this glorious big open air public swimming pool filled with geothermal water. The Széchenyi bath is considered medical and its waters have been scientifically verified to have high concentrations of minerals and be therapeutic for joint diseases. The hottest pool was my favorite and its temperature is 77 C / 171 F. But you already knew that I like it hot ?

Hungary has lots of geothermal water and the natural springs under this artesian spa supply 6 million liters (1.6 million gallons) of hot water per day! I may developed a new love of hot springs from this experience. Maybe the next one will be in Iceland in October? ❄️ .
