In the spirit of Berlin, handstand outside Linie 206, one of the few remaining occupied/squatter houses left. _ Berlin squats started in rundown parts of West Berlin in the 1960s and then spread to the East post reunification. Part of Berlin’s alternative myths, the squats are called “occupied” buildings. While they’re now in retreat and subject to the threat of gentrification and private equity real estate development, the squatter buildings were/are often informal cultural centers for left-leaning communities and people who wanted to opt-out of the capitalist system. _ This building, Linie 206, is still occupied. A resident came out and asked what we were taking pictures for and asked specifically if we were just trying to sell some clothes. I told her it was for Instagram and that I’d use my platform to share her story. People talked about how it was being gentrified and the heart and soul of the neighborhood was being sold off for condos. Yoga was part of the counterculture for me, a step away from the blissfully sterile world of artificial plastic happiness into the gritty reality of life at the edges of your comfort zone. I’m not against the mainstream, but if there’s one thing I’ve gotten clear about recently it’s that money is one thing and soul is another. If something is important to you, hold on to it, speak up for it, fight for it. If there is a small piece of humanity that gives you life, stand up for it. If there is something that has meaning and significance in your life don’t assume that it will always be there and take it for granted. _ There was a time when I wanted to be pretty and popular. That was a time when I felt I needed to fit the mold in order to be good enough. Now I know in my bones that I am good enough and I want to be impactful and make a difference in the world. _ When your heart really opens you are compelled to act. We need to refresh the definition of ahimsa to include social justice. Yoga is an indictment of indifference. _ #practiceyogachangeyourworld
