All over the city of Lisbon, and across Portugal, are the famous Azulejos (hand painted tiles). They have been around since the 16th century and were originally used for temperature control in homes. The Portuguese adopted this from the Moors in order to fill and decorate their walls. It's a strong Portuguese symbol, so I couldn't imagine not having them line the walls at Lupulo (@lupulonyc), my second restaurant in NYC modeled after Lisbon’s famed cervejarias. #Portugal #Lisbon #architecture
