First I guess I'll start with the fact that this was one of my top bucketlist experiences of my life, and I almost thought I wouldn't be able to do it bc of the dive accident and newly acquired diving anxiety. But I practiced all weekend, and the second I saw them swimming below me, I was so excited that I forgot about any worries whatsoever! . Second: I LOVE SHARKS!!!! Sharks are friends, not villains!! We got circled by 9 of them, and it was one of the most peaceful, beautiful animal encounters I have ever had! . Third, some quick facts about bull shark diving in Playa del Carmen, but please read my extensive guide on my website! . This info is from my Marine Biologist dive guide Kim with @k_kdiving, who I would highly recommend doing the dive with! She is so knowledgeable and loves the sharks so much, and made me feel super confident that I could do it! She also got all the close up shots of the sharkies! THANK YOU KIM! 💖 . 🦈These are pregnant female bullsharks, who come to Playa for gestation period, likely bc it's a area with no potential predators and years ago fishermen used to dump fish here so they were attracted in that particular spot 🦈They are chill bc they are female only, no males, and used to humans/divers, but in some parts of the world, they are! 🦈Some companies hand feed them but ours DID NOT! There's debate about feeding them but remember.. 🦈Live shark tourism is greatly helping to reduce dead shark tourism. 🦈This was only 400 meters from the beach in Playa...hehe 🦈There has never been a shark attack here! 🦈You need Advanced Open Water OR Open Water with over 20 dives + pay extra for the Advanced briefing, bc this is a deep dive (80-90ft) 🦈They come from Nov-March (I may organize a trip in Feb) .
