If you like the idea of reliving those moments, then keep thinking about them. But if you want something different you’ll have to shift your focus. _ If you’re projecting into the future, then the power of your thoughts is very likely to impact what your life will be like. If your view of the future is filled with images that make you happy, keep thinking them. But if, when your thoughts tell the story of tomorrow, you experience anxiety, stress, depression, anger or other emotions you enjoy less, then again you’ll need to shift your focus. _ If all you see in the present is everything that’s wrong and you feel yourself drowning in a flood of your own emotions, again you’ll need the shift your focus if you want to feel better. Even if you’re in the midst of a bonafide catastrophe, there is no reason you need to add emotional distress to an already troubling situation. You can choose how to regulate your thoughts and emotions and make a qualitative difference in your life, right now, today, with no change in external circumstances. _ It doesn’t matter whether you gaze points forward, backward or to the present. What matters is the quality of focus if you want to take back the reigns from the emotional rollercoaster of life.
