A toothless elderly man in a wheelchair called out to a young woman in a rush to get things done. She stopped, just long enough to look him in the eye, and was touched enough to listen. Even though life and its busyness pulled her away like a swirling vortex, there was enough presence in his eyes to draw her in. She stopped and so did time. _ Then, he asked her to buy him a sandwich from the shop nearby. She said yes and took careful notes on his order. She returned a few minutes later with his lunch. _ He looked at her and just paused, not saying the expected thank you, although he was clearly grateful, if anything more for the conversation and the presence than the food. Then, with an ageless smile, he said simply, “One day I hope to be perfect. Because God told Abraham and Jesus said too, that we are made in God’s image, and God is perfect. So, maybe one day I will be perfect too, even me with this broken body.” _ Understanding that this was the teaching she had been searching for, seeing beyond the physical into the spirit, holding his heart as her own, she said, “You’re already perfect just as you are.”. _ Surprised and yet willing to take it in, he said, “I’ll never forget you.” _ She left and couldn’t help but think that it was the most meaningful moment in her day, and maybe her life. _ This is a true story. It happened today. But it could also be an ancient parable. _ We live with eyes and hearts cut off and separate. To feel, we have to drop down and be willing to be side-tracked. We barrel forward with an agenda. But, to be truly alive we need space around the edges. We run a race against time, desperate to prove our worthiness in a series of nexts. But there’s no test to pass to win your value in the spirit. To see through the eyes of eternity is to see equally through every gaze. _ #practiceyogachangeyourworld #onebreathatatime ?
