Home. I’m a Miami native. Born and bred. After having left this warm, sunny sandy place by the sea in search of culture, experience, history and really just a good time, I realized like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz that there’s no place like home.

People say Miami is sinking (maybe we will be lost like Atlantis one day). People say it’s too hot (it is hot, but I love the heat). People say we aren’t really part of America (they might be right—Miami Beach is technically inside of the Bermuda Triangle). People say there are sharks in the water (they’re there but they don’t bite and there are also manatees and dolphins and sometimes flamingos). People say no one speaks English (si, todo hablamos en Español, me gusta mucho). People say we trade bikinis for culture (who says we can’t be artistic in our swimwear?). .

Home is where your heart is. Home means so many different things for everyone.

I am a Miami girl at heart. I might be talked into moving to Fiji one day, but otherwise I’ll be here eating mangos and drinking coconuts. Come visit sometime. I’m teaching a one week Ashtanga Retreat in December with only a few spots left open. I’m leaving tomorrow for two months and already feeling homesick. Maybe that means I’ll be spending more time at home next year, let’s see. For now I’m jumping back in the ocean and savoring every day of sun.
