When you begin your yoga journey you might be inspired to change your life. Sometimes the old habits of the past no longer support the new experience of yourself that comes with the practice. But that doesn't make life change easy. What we have known is all that we know and letting go of it, even if it's destructive, can be hard. Actions, habits, thoughts, emotions, even physical posture are all practiced ways of inhabiting the body and mind and if you want to change you want to be ready to let go of what no longer serves you. Two things can help: go on a retreat or take a long trip dedicated just to yoga to give yourself time to get established in your practice and make some yoga friends that share the practice with you and will support your journey. Sharing your experience with like-minded people gives you courage to take the next steps towards freedom. Even though the spiritual path is a solitary journey we are never alone, God is with us every step. In the delicate time of transition your faith needs to be nurtured and the weeds of doubt need to be removed. I remember the day when I realized that three (or sometimes four) days of binge partying simply didn't support the yoga lifestyle. A part of me mourned the fun, fabulous sleepless nights but there was no way I would turn my back on the new direction in my life. Going to India for two months at the start of my journey many years ago and making friends in the yoga sangha helped get me established along my path. Where are you now In your journey? Who are best yoga friends? Tag them and share the inspiration ? I tag @beachyogagirl who is an angel on my path. Photo with our awesome students on the beach in Goa by @Katka_Sedme_Nebe
