Walk on ice and float in freezing waters in Hokkaido’s Shiretoko National Park

Winter in Shiretoko teems with adventure from drift ice walks in Utoro on the west side to Steller's sea eagle sightings in Rausu on the east side. Shiretoko is a peninsula protruding from the northeast corner of Hokkaido. The peninsula is covered by untouched nature and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. In winter, drift ice from the adjacent Sea of Okhotsk, extending up to Russia, creates mosaic patterns on the sea surface.

Tours provide a dry suit to stay warm and safely float in the water. Stellar’s eagles also fly down to Shiretoko National Park, to escape the brutal winter further north. Explore some of Japan’s most remote and natural wonders.
