Futago, the highest point of the Kunisaki Peninsula in northern Kyushu, Futagoji Temple dates all the way back to the year 718. ❄️😯  Take the traditional approach to the temple by first passing over Mumyo Bridge, lit. “the bridge of ignorance.” It is said that Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, is enshrined under the bridge, and that crossing this bridge is said to bring about a mysterious feeling of faith, and that if a cow or horse crosses the bridge, it will fall off. In the stillness of winter, the path to the temple feels even more suspended in time as you lock eyes with the imposing Nio statues solemnly guarding the stone steps to the temple, draped in white wreaths of snow. It is said that rubbing the feet of these statues will strengthen your legs and back. Continue upwards past the parking lot up another set of snow-covered steps and you will reach the main hall, Goma-do. 🦶🦵  In addition to its long history and expansive forest, Futagoji Temple is famous as a sacred place for child-giving.
