The funny thing is, this doesn't feel rushed or like a 'whirlwind' romance at all. Neither of us have lost who we are or given up our lives or friendships for each other. It's felt very natural and easy... So much so it actually freaked me out at first. People always say that the right person just comes along, as if it's that easy, but I think it requires more than that. In the 6 years of being single I experienced nearly every emotion and feeling that comes with it. From initially not knowing how to be alone, to seeing being single as some sort of failure... To dating the wrong people, going through heartbreak, wondering what I'd done wrong... To the last couple of years of really embracing and living my life and loving being single. I learnt to put my love and energy into friendships, and my own hobbies and passions - all whilst still putting up with a lot of the negative or irritating things about society that comes with being single. There were moments I worried I was "too independent" or "too feminist"... But in all that time I worked hard on myself. I got to know who I was, what I liked and what I didn't, what triggered me, my own toxic traits and behaviours. So when we met it did feel natural, but I worked hard to build up my boundaries, my self esteem, my confidence, my ability to spot red flags and toxic behaviours. I'm still learning now as I navigate being in a relationship again after so long. I feel empowered to know that we both choose to be with each other because we want to be. We don't need each other, because both our worlds we're already complete without the other. I wish I'd learned a lot of what I did in those 6 years sooner, which is why I'm so passionate about single positivity and empowering women now to know their worth and only ever attract and tolerate a fulfilling relationship (and knowing they can walk away at any time without having to fear being single). I can't wait to tell you what I've been working away on behind the scenes this past year... 💞」10月21日 2時40分 - ashleylouisejames
