I used to always fall for emotionally unavailable people and then even though it would make me feel so unloved and unworthy, I'd make it my mission for them to like me back. I couldn't walk away because I 'loved' them. A very wise friend once said to me, "you don't love them, you just want them to like you back because it's easier than facing rejection" and that really hit a nerve with me. I'd punish myself over my own behaviour, thinking "what did I do wrong, they were so keen at the beginning" or "maybe if I'd have played it cooler they'd have liked me back" or "next time I'm not going to mess it up by doing this" - but it was not my fault. I was attracting the wrong people, falling for love bombing, and not loving myself enough to know when to walk away. I was in a vicious cycle because the more this happened, the more my self esteem took a hit, and the less I felt I deserved. I really turned it around for myself a few years ago when I started to really learn to love myself and promised myself I'd love myself more than anyone else. I started to stand up and speak up for what I deserved, and knew the point at which to walk away, even if it was painful to do so. The more I loved myself the more I filled my life with the things and people I loved, and the less patience I had with anyone who wasn't good for me. I stopped attracting emotionally unavailable people because I loved myself too much to accept someone else's crumbs. 💁🏼‍♀️ Just a reminder that I needed back then: It's NOT 'crazy' to communicate your feelings or boundaries with someone. "It's not acceptable to me that you'd make plans with me and then cancel, I don't tolerate that and am looking for more." Or "you did X and that hurt me" So if you're sat waiting for someone to text you back, making excuses for poor behaviour, are letting someone's behaviour affect your emotions... then love yourself enough to walk away.
