With its long tail and spotted coat, this marbled cat could easily be described as a miniature version of the clouded leopard. However, despite their similarities, the marbled cat has a short, more rounded head than other felines, with a wide forehead and large pupils. Believed to be solitary and nocturnal, this species spends most of its time in the trees, feeding on rats, birds, bats, and squirrels. Its extremely long and bushy tail to help it balance is just one of many physical attributes that makes this cat well suited for life in the trees. While it has vocalizations similar to that of a domestic cat, the marbled cat is considerably larger, weighing up to 18 pounds and reaching lengths of 32-46 inches. Found in southern Asia from Nepal through southeastern Asia to Borneo and Sumatra, habitat destruction is the primary threat to this species.
