This beauty is a Philippine honey buzzard @avilonzooph. Despite its common name, the honey buzzard is not a true buzzard nor does it feed on honey - it is a bird of prey that feeds predominantly on grubs and adult wasps, bees, and other invertebrates. While these birds have a beak that is shaped like one belonging to a typical raptor, it is much weaker than the beaks of other birds of prey because of this specialized, insect-based diet. Honey buzzards will spend a great deal of time putting this beak to work, feeding on the ground and digging up wasp nests. As one might expect, it does appear that these birds get stung while in pursuit of their prey, but thankfully they have tightly arranged, almost scale-like feathers on their heads that help to prevent stingers from penetrating the skin. #honeybuzzard #birdofprey #Philippine #raptor #PhotoArk #savetogether
