It's hard to believe that this wiry looking chick will soon transform into a stunning adult Guianan cock-of-the-rock like this male @dallas_world_aquarium. Found throughout southern Guyana, Colombia, Venezuela and northern Brazil, these birds are known for their bright orange feathers and half-moon crests on their heads. In the wild, males spend much of the day at a communal lek (area used for breeding displays). Leks can contain as many as 50 males attempting to attract mates, either participating in combat displays, or elaborate dancing displays. Females often choose nesting sites near the males’ leks, and will sometimes work in groups to build nests out of mud, clay, and plant matter.
