I spent the afternoon in the hospital. After treating the burn on my thigh for ten days it was hurting a lot and I couldn’t see any signs of healing, so my husband decided that it was time to have someone look at it in person (also endless google searches on second degree burns can make you go insane). _ . There’s good and bad news! First, the good—it’s healing well and everything I’m doing is good. Bad news—the pain will continue and maybe worsen, it will take months before my skin is normal (they can’t tell if it will scar or not). Oh and, they gave me a tetanus shot, tried to give me a flu shot (I managed to refuse that one!), and prescribed heavy duty pain-killers (which I also tried to refuse but they made me take the prescription). _ . What I actually got was peace of mine. It hurt so badly that yesterday I had a full blown panic attack. I had to tell Tim to pull over so I could put my head between my legs and breathe. The walls closed in and even when I got my breath back I sat there immobilized for about an hour. Yup, guess it was time to go to the doctor. _ We have insurance but this little visit is likely to cost us at least over $1,000 (probably more BC it costs $500 just to walk in the door). Our deductible is really high so we have to pay out of pocket until we hit it (which I hope we never do). Sitting in the hospital it really hit me—I’m sorry if this offends anyone—why should health care be a privilege only people with money can afford? We can pay, but imagine if we couldn’t. Imagine if one motorcycle burn put us at risk of not paying our mortgage or car payment. If doctor’s visits weren’t going to cost a small fortune how many people would get more regular treatment? I don’t have the answers, but all I can say is that it breaks my heart to think that someone else with my exact situation wouldn’t be able to get a doctor’s counsel BC they couldn’t afford it. _ Day 3 #30dayyogaliving is Trikonasana.
