Why did you choose to join Instagram? Answer: We started back in 2011 as a test for the Million Dollar Memo campaign (a campaign around incentive travel in Queensland) but we didn’t really get started on posting regular content on Instagram until May 2012 when we launched the Queensland Blog and used the platform to document the travels of ten international bloggers in Tropical North Queensland. From that starting point, we focused on working with our local community around the #thisisqueensland hashtag. We republished content from around the state and began building relationships with our budding Instagrammers and visitors. We introduced ‘InstaStories’ in 2013. During an InstaStory, a local guest Instagrammer becomes the curator of the account for a few days. It’s a great way to show what’s happening in a specific area of Queensland and to work with local Instagrammers to encourage a wider community following. We also run Instameets regularly which is a great way to meet the community and visitors to Queensland in real life. ________________________________________Q: How has Instagram helped you more than other social networks, to connect with your consumers? A: Instagram helps us to connect with consumers as they experience and share Queensland and we can use these real stories to inspire others to follow in their footsteps. The best thing about Instagram is the community. The Instagrammers that we get to connect with everyday are the most passionate advocates of Queensland that we have come across.
