Why did you choose to join Instagram? Answer: The museum has always been interested in using social media to share ideas and content with our audiences. It was important for us to be a part of this movement in sharing purely visual content on mobile devices. Since joining, the response from the community has been quite overwhelming. ________________________________________Q: How relevant is Instagram for a museum like yours? A: Design is a hugely visual medium, so Instagram is naturally very relevant. Lots of the designers, makers and creatives that the museum works with use Instagram too and things like takeovers have been really successful for us. Instagram enables us to learn more about visitor’s experiences of the museum, seeing things from their visual perspective. In addition to our app, it’s a great platform to share objects from our permanent collection, which isn’t currently on display – but will be when we move to our new home in Kensington. ________________________________________Q: How has UGC (User-Generated Content) helped you develop your account? A: UGC is a huge part of our account – we love to see how creative our followers can be! It’s always a pleasure to look through the hashtags of current exhibitions, which at the moment are #DesignsoftheYear and #LifeonFoot. Our main hashtag for Instagram is #DesignMuseum, and we frequently repost our favourites from this as a way of saying thank you!
