My mother has rarely worn makeup her entire life, my relatives don't follow fashion trends and we didn't have excessive jewellery growing up aside from a single inexpensive watch or necklace that held sentimental meaning. I sometimes think that I prefer the way the world was when I was a child - the freedom from social media, photographs, internet and judgement. To just wake up as yourself, spend the day being yourself and go to bed at night knowing who you are. Yet todays world is filtered to the point of people being physically and mentally unrecognisable to the persona that they portray online, girls send and receive daily insults of "your beauty can be taken away with a wet wipe" and nobody is who they say they are anymore. There is so much hate, criticism, jealousy and competition resulting in people being afraid to be themselves and it breaks my heart to see such beautiful souls retreating from life. So I'll stand here today, tomorrow and for as many days as I am blessed to be alive as myself, true to myself and free from the concern and peer pressure to conform to be "perfect".
