That’s always what happens when you only listen to the bad things that are said about a country. You end up never going, and never knowing! Howeverrrrr I’m not going to lie and say the bad things weren’t true (past tense). In fact, these beautiful green rolling hills with healthy farms and seemingly happy people, are where the majority of Congo’s two civil wars not long ago. A lot of lives (millions) were sadly lost in these mountains, along with the reputation of the country. But today this area (called Masisi) is where people go for a leisurely weekend getaway or celebration with family! We went horseback riding here and had fun watching a local children’s soccer game and a big birthday celebration! I’m about done with all (four) of my D.R. Congo blog posts (I wrote during all of my long car trips for the past month), and the first one of course addresses the history and safety questions for Congo.
