Another common misconception/stereotype about Mexico: it’s all just one place that looks the same, with lots of tacos and tequila. WROOONNGG!! (Well except for the 🌮🍹)
Mexico actually has 32 states and thousands of cities, and they are very different!
Sayulita I would say is like the “Tulum of the west coast” but here are the differences and similarities between the two:
Sayulita:
- a “Pueblo Mágico” on the Pacific Ocean
- chill surf town/beach
- also has mountains and jungle
- lots of amazing hiking options
- very small, only a couple main streets
- lively night life
- mostly affordable
- mostly inhabited by foreigners
- main mode of transport: golf carts or walking
- main decor theme: bright colors, flags, and Pom Poms
Tulum:
- located in the southeast on the Caribbean
- clearer, warmer ocean water
- tons of famous beach clubs, hotels, and restaurants
- can be VERY expensive
- difficult to get around
- lots of cenotes and ruins nearby (you need transport)
- lively night life
- TONS of yoga & wellness stuff
- mostly inhabited by foreigners
- main decor theme: neutral colored boho
Which of these two towns is more appealing to you??
(Photo is of a treehouse bungalow in Sayulita, shot with my cool new 5ft monopod!)
