I actually really struggle to use the word “love” in terms of a relationship, in fact it’s something that I actively run away from and can’t even bring myself to write because of cheating ex’s. I think the two most overused and meaningless things that people say are “I love you” and “I’m sorry” because they say them so often without any truth that they totally lose their value. How often have people told you they’re sorry and promised to change yet sounded so disingenuous? How often has somebody told you they love you when they’ve done something wrong (yet again) as a means to make you stay and give them another chance? If you’re truly sorry you won’t make the same mistake more than once and if you truly love somebody you’ll never have to tell them because they will already know and feel it in all that you do and how you are together. For many I think Valentine’s brings to the surface the failings of a relationship, highlighting all that is lacking throughout the year and the many imperfections which is why so many men stress unnecessarily about what to do and so many women are left feeling disappointed because they are not treated well or loved enough. We must all reset our boundaries and bring true love and happiness into all that we do, make kindness and consideration an everyday occurrence. You do not need to go all out on one day of the year to make up for what you’ve failed to do the other 364 days. Laugh together, learn together and make each moment magical regardless of the day.
