Many have this Disney-inspired sickeningly-perfect preconception of love being a fairytale, living happily ever after without ever arguing or exchanging a cross word when in reality most relationships are very far from that. Many people argue, scream, shout, cry, fall out and have their hearts broken over and over again, sometimes on a daily basis because of toxic relationships that should have ended a long time ago, if not ever begun. We need to look at life and our relationships from a balanced perspective and recognise that sharing the “best bits” of a relationship online does NOT portray the reality of what truly goes on behind closed doors. I’ve lived many years within abusive relationships suffering in silence because I simply didn’t know any better being so young. I too have put up with so many things I never should have as a grown woman because I allowed my heart to rule my head - but we live and we learn, each lesson leading us to understand our self worth and what we truly deserve. For me, Valentine’s is a love that we feel everyday of the year in the way that we interact, treat and are treated by others. If you have to question if you are loved then sadly you already have your answer. Love should flourish and flow into all that you do because actions will always speak louder than words. Enough of the false promises, white lies, shady moves and secrets - if you can’t be open, honest and faithful please do not seek the heart of others, stay single. This Valentine’s Day I hope that you realise the beautiful individual soul that you are, that you find love and peace in your bones and the self worth and self love to be thankful for your body mind and soul. I hope that you are blessed to have the love of somebody who truly deserves you, otherwise know that you are better off alone rather than trapped in a toxic, cruel and unhealthy relationship you do not deserve.
