Helmut Kohl served as German Chancellor from 1982-1998. He would have been 90 today.
Kohl’s 16-year tenure was the longest of any German chancellor in modern history. His legacy of overseeing both the end of the Cold War and German reunification led to him being referred to as, “the Chancellor of Unity.” The above image is an outtake from a story on Berlin, shot for @ナショナルジオグラフィック during a state visit of French President Mitterrand commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II in May 1995. To me, it represents the staged nature of official political events.
