My self-loathing was mostly sublimated, arising in volcanic moments of explosion or implosion. Then, something shifted. When I finally saw just how deeply the wound in my soul was, when I truly saw just how broken I was, a path of full self-acceptance arose from the ashes. I learned to love myself just as I am, with all my quirky idiosyncratic ways, with all my femaleness, intelligence, grit and grace. There are still challenging days, but I know deep down that the person I am is strong enough to face whatever arises with a heart full of love and wisdom or to walk away if that’s not accessible. _ Nothing in the world can fill the hole in your heart that happens when you reject yourself. Each story of self-loathing you tell yourself is a knife that cuts into your soul. There are an infinite amount of escape routes that seem to offer relief, but they’re all temporary. So much of our world is built on quick fixes and fast schemes to take your pain away. I’m not here to do that. _ What I can offer you is a long road home. It will be sometimes be hard, sometimes easy. There will be times that you’ll want to quit, you’ll think you just can’t do it anymore. You’ll feel lost and alone, unsure of where to place your next step. But, then you’ll find strength where you didn’t believe it was, tap into an inextinguishable fire, and touch the core of who you really are. You’ll find new connections and community where the old disappeared. You’ll find depth and meaning. It will all be worth it because you’ll come full circle, back to who you really are.
