Meet the Black-and-chestnut Eagle (Spizaetus isidori)! Living in the humid montane forests of eastern South America, this raptor preys on a variety of animals, from monkeys to birds, sloths to tree porcupines. It starts out life with lighter plumage, which gradually darkens from pale brown to black as it ages. Males and females have a similar appearance, but females tend to be larger in size. And the eagle’s wingspan? It can reach 180 centimeters (5.9 feet).
