Meet the tiny Tufted Coquette (Lophornis ornatus)! This hummingbird only grows to be around 6.6 centimeters (2.5 inches) long—it’s sometimes mistaken for a large bee! The Tufted Coquette inhabits forests and savannas in northeastern South America. Both males and females come in shades of green and orange, but only males sport the orange crest and elongated, speckled plumes on their cheeks. This critter can be spotted foraging around flowering plants, looking for nectar and small insects.
