No spots here, but did you know the Dalmatian Pelican (Pelecanus crispus) is the largest species of pelican? It’s about 170 centimeters (5.6 feet) long, with a wingspan around 328 centimeters (10.8 feet). Beyond its size, it’s distinguished by its crest of luxurious silvery-white plumage and large throat pouch, which turns a reddish orange during breeding season. Populations range from parts of Eastern Europe to China during breeding season, to the Mediterranean and Middle East during winters. It prefers to inhabit wetlands, where it can find fish such as carp and eel.
