Last week I flew to London for the @womensclimbing symposium. It was my longest time being away from Theo since he was born, leaving me both anxious and elated at the prospect of some quiet time to myself. As I strolled solo through idyllic British neighborhoods, I found myself feeling light and free in a way that I can only associate with a much younger version of myself. And yet, out of an almost mindless habit, I also found myself constantly reaching down in search of that touch of a tiny hand that is as ever-present to moms as the breath in our lungs.
I soaked up my time away. I stayed in bed and read until 11am(!), prepped and ate meals in silence, and had uninterrupted conversations with some of my favorite people from around the world. It was weird and wonderful, a gentle reminder of a pace and routine that I'd walked for many years.
Returning home was seamless. There were hugs and "I missed you" but they were as fleeting as an evening primrose. It was as if no time had passed for Theo. By the afternoon, we had fallen back into our old routine of exploring the world together through a child’s eyes, where time itself is in endless supply.
