this morning i rose a little extra early while the household slept and watched as the sun crested the stonewall in its rightful and familiar place for this time of year. still chilly I opened the window just a crack and listened as the cool air stirred the drying leaves from their nests at the base of the house - lifting them up and swirling them a few inches off the ground .

I find these first few days restorative and peaceful. my summer soul is quieting down as is the mania of needing to be everywhere at once. there is a predictability now that I relish .

reestablishing routines and cultivating new one I know will sustain me in the months to come. there is still a to-do list a mile long, and if I pause to think about it too long it takes my breath away and today and tomorrow a shot list of equal length. But instead of the wild abandon of summer i am using this structure to my advantage and carving out small moment where I can
