the best seat in the house. the city cottage kitchen is finally! finished its transformation as all the final touches, like doors over the pantry and our beautiful pendant lights have gone up. I've taken to sitting here most of the time soaking it all in (it also means I can "forget" the rest of the cottage is still a mess of construction and flooring and plaster projects. .

it's taken nearly a year to complete the kitchen alone. in part because I take the selection process very seriously - bringing in nothing that I do not believe to be beautiful or useful (and hopefully both). it's been arduous at times. I knew I wanted to create a space that was simple but still elegant in its everyday use. and I took care to find the materials that respected this vision. but finding pieces to complete this puzzle wasn't easy

this particular puzzle started with the hunt for flooring - I wanted something that felt natural in this 117year old space but still maintained an elegant utilitarian feel- after a series of false starts and rabbit holes of design I came across this matte white penny tile @wayfair from there it was building from the ground up until it came time for the seating - I had the picture in my mind for how I wanted the space to look and function - a place for work and sunday morning coffee together and a cozy spot for guests to hangout in the kitchen with a glass of wine while I cook - easier said than done. Finding the right vintage piece was impossible and the scale of furniture these days all seems sized for spaces the size of airplane hangers - not hundred year old city cottages - @wayfair came up trumps again with these perfectly scaled, simple but modern wing chairs a nod to our New England location. And now I've piled stacks of cookbooks next to me and I'm planning autumn meals in this kitchen
